Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish. These are not in any specific order, and I definitely think you should check them all out.

Lucy Clarke - I devoured both of Clarke's novels this year, Swimming at Night, & A Single Breath. They were both 5 star reads for me and I absolutely cannot wait for her next release. She is definitely an auto-buy author for me. I passed both books to my mom, and she also loved them.

Diana Gabaldon - With all the hype surrounding the TV show, I thought I'd pick up Outlander, and I'm so glad that I did. I loved it so much that I bought all the books (minus the newest because it doesn't match my copies). I've read Dragonfly in Amber, and am halfway through Voyager. They're very, very long books and at times they're a tad slow, but I love them. Time travel & romance? Yes, please.

Caroline Kepnes - You was incredibly disturbing, but in such an intense, need-to-read way. It's one of those books that you almost don't want to read because it's disturbing, but it draws you in and makes you keep reading. Loved it. Read it.

Abigail Haas - I loved Dangerous Girls so much that sometimes I still think about it. Dangerous Boys was good, too, but Dangerous Girls is amazing. If you're looking for a great YA thriller, check out Abigail Haas. I will read anything she writes.

Sarah J. Maas - I finally decided to check out Throne of Glass and I'm glad I did. I love a badass female heroine and Celaena doesn't disappoint. I also read Crown of Midnight, but haven't gotten to Heir of Fire yet.

Morgan Matson - Matson is probably my favourite YA contemporary author that I discovered this year. Amy and Rogers Epic Detour was such a good read, and Second Chance Summer kicked me right in the feels and knocked me down. Since You've Been Gone was also a fun, summer read. If you're a Sarah Dessen fan, check out Morgan Matson.

Sebastien de Castell - Traitor's Blade was my attempt to get back into fantasy, and I'm so so happy that I did. de Castell's characters are funny, charming, and of course, badass. He writes women characters to be just as great as the men, which I really appreciate. Knight's Shadow comes out in 2015, and I can't wait.

Sara Zarr - I read Roomies way back in the beginning of 2014, and I've been meaning to read other books by Zarr since then. Roomies made me feel nostalgic, and reminded me what it's like to start something completely new and foreign. She definitely nailed the feelings of what it's like to be scared and happy at the same time.

Laura Wiess - Me Since You was another book that hit me in the feels. It was a little predictable, and you spend a lot of time waiting for it to happen, but when it does, it's very emotional. This was not a feel good book, but it was beautifully written and important.

Tiffanie DeBartolo - God-Shaped Hole was written in 2002, but stands the test of time. The characters were so real to me, and I found myself in them. It was sad, happy, hopeful, tragic, and beautiful. I loved it, and I think if it was released this year, it would have been huge.

I love discovering new authors each year. Let me know if there's any authors you love that you think I absolutely need to check out. Who was your favourite discovery this year?

  4. Yay for both having Sarah J. Maas! Her books are just fantastic. Heir of Fire was epic, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
I've seen Morgan Matson and Abigail Haas all over the book blogosphere in recent months. I haven't gotten the chance to read either of their books yet, but considering the overwhelming positive feedback I've heard, I definitely will soon. Nice list :)

  5. The only author on your list I have read is Diana Gabaldon, and I've only read Outlander but really enjoyed it. I REALLY need to jump on the "Throne of Glass" train as I have heard NOTHING but good things about that series. =)
